We’re grinding away the rust on a lot of the under-dash mechanisms for Dave, in order to get everything working more smoothly. The hinges on his heater box had a lot of surface rust on them, which made the movements stiff. We used a wheel-grinder on the hinges and sand-blasted the bigger components–the e-brake metal sleeve, for instance. The slats and doors in the heater box also had rust, which left pits after we blasted them, but they’ll work fine, so we primed and painted them and will re-use them. Now that we’ve gotten all the rust off of the mechanics, the A/C and heater will work better, as the doors and vents will close more easily and aren’t hindered by rust.

Here we are dealing with the rust we found in Ian’s Bullitt. Pat is painting on rust converter on the cowl vent, on the dash, underneath the side scoops on the outside, etc. The rust isn’t deep, so it should convert OK and that will be it.

Here we are treating Ian’s Mustang’s cowl for rust, and after we’ll be installing the repair collars. We’re first coating it with rust-converter, and then we’ll spray it with undercoat, a thick, heavy paint that will prevent future rusting.
