July 20-21 Disassembly and repair
The engine compartment has been disassembled. We will be replacing the battery fender apron, checking the transmission, and replacing the rear seal on the engine. The transmission is acting up in reverse-it jumps out of gear. More info on the shifting coming soon.
They also began treating the ceiling for rust before installing the new headliner. Mitch is seen here on the 21st working on the area between the front windshield and passenger side window. He was removing bondo and smoothing cracks. They also spent some time on the dash to treat rust.
Tom’s 1965 Mustang Preliminary
Savannah and Tim brought this Mustang out to our friend Steve at his Paint Shop yesterday, and Savannah stayed behind a while to do the preliminary photoshoot. She photographed a full inspection set so that Tom could see in-detail the condition of the Mustang prior to Steve’s work.
July 17- Cowl, Hole repair, and Door Removal
The guys disassembled the dash for a good inspection of the cowl. It was definitely rusted and will need repair. There was also some rust, from a leak, on the passenger side of the dash. Rust conversion and paint will fix both of these problems. Tim also repaired the hole from an extra antenna on the back passenger side fender. What a relief that was! Finally, there are some photos of the doors being removed for repair.
July 13-July 15
The door panels were next to come out. They are water damaged and most likely original. We also worked on the exterior of the Mustang. The passenger side fender is off for the battery apron to be replaced. We had to remove the solenoid, fender extension, and headlight to get a clear setup. As you can see, the old battery apron is completely rusted through. Ron included a new apron with the sale of the Mustang and will have the new apron installed soon! We removed the passenger side door and door seals, all of which will be replaced.
All bono’ed areas have been ground down, so that we can start the metalwork. The rear passenger fender will especially need repair. We removed both front and back windshields to replace the headliner. Previously, someone installed a rear antenna. Then, the area was DUCT TAPED (!) under the hole and bono-ed over the hole to hide the evidence. What were they thinking?!?
We also sanded the overhead to prep for headliner. There is a crack that needs to be repaired and we discovered 2 small leaks on each side of the front windshield. These are pretty common problems. They will repair pretty fast!
We will be going over these repair issues with you. Please be considering how much you would like to repair yourself and what you would like us to do. Talk to you soon!
May 28- Heater Box
We removed the heater box for inspection. It has been cracked in several places and will need to be replaced. We will be able to use some components to bring down cost of replacement. The plenum is also in bad shape (its made of cardboard). We can replace with a newer plastic version. The heater box motor seems to be in good shape. We will be completing some more tests to be sure. There’s some rust in the vent doors. The thermostat is also broken.
7-11 Shifting Issues
Big Chief and the shop guys worked on the sticky shifter here. They think the problem is related to the shifter box and not the transmission itself, but more information will be coming soon. We are still researching and inspecting everything…

The engine is once again out of this ‘Stang! They pulled it to install the transmission and to put in new headers. The engine got a tuneup with new spark plugs. The Bosch plugs could not be used. They wouldn’t fit that old of a block, so went with the HiPo AutoLite Ford brand. There are also some photos of the trunk divider area, where we are still working on the welding.
Welcome Adnan!
